Erin Hooley
Erin Hooley is a photojournalist at the Chicago Tribune where she has been working since 2015. She covers a wide range of news, crime, sports, features and documentary projects, including video.
Previously, she spent five years at the Standard-Examiner in Ogden. After moving to Alaska, she worked as a photographer for the University of Alaska Anchorage. Erin was also a photo assistant during the Iditarod 1000+ mile sled dog race. One summer, she traveled to every brewery in Alaska and photographed hundreds of beers for The Beer Up Here iPhone app.
She studied at the University of Colorado in her hometown of Boulder and found a love for photojournalism in Dan Eldon’s “The Journey is the Destination.”
Lisa Krantz is a staff photographer at the San Antonio Express-News and an adjunct professor at Texas A&M University-San Antonio. She recently completed a year-long fellowship with the Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard, studying the intersection of journalism and trauma.
In 2018, Lisa was named a finalist for the Pulitzer Prize in Feature Photography for the story of Rowan Windham, a 10-year-old who inspired others with his positive outlook on life despite battling a rare, incurable disorder.
Krantz has a psychology degree from Florida State University and a MA in photography from Syracuse University. Previously she worked at the Naples (FL) Daily News.

Nate Smallwood
Nate Smallwood is a photojournalist based in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Born in Columbus, Ohio, Nate earned a degree from Ohio University’s School of Visual Communication.
Following internships with the Columbus Crew (MLS), and the Detroit Free Press, Nate became a staff photographer at the Tribune-Review in 2016.
Nate is a member of Diversity.Photo, National Association of Press Photographers (NPPA), and Video Consortium.
Multimedia judges
Carrie Cochran is a Pulitzer Prize-winning filmmaker and journalist for the Scripps Washington Bureau’s investigative team, where she has worked since April 2018. Before coming to D.C., she worked for her hometown paper, The Cincinnati Enquirer, for 13 years, where she was a photographer, reporter and videojournalist.
In June 2020, she was awarded the grand prize in the Robert F. Kennedy Human RIghts’ Journalism Awards for her role in the documentary, “A Broken Trust.” She was the one of the lead reporters and producers, as well as the director of photography and editor, in the 48-minute film.
Cochran was ONPA Photographer for the year (large market), in 2016.

Jarrad Henderson is a four-time Emmy award-winning senior video producer for USA Today’s Investigative and Enterprise video unit. Recognized for being a forward-thinking, digital savvy, media and video production expert, Henderson helps others pursue their dreams of becoming visual storytellers through his roles as an Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University’s School of Continuing Studies, Multimedia Judge for the Hearst Journalism Awards Program and as Academic Representative for the National Association of Black Journalists, Board of Directors.
