Yes those Cleveland Cavaliers are sitting at home watching the NBA finals but, sports will still take center stage in Ohio this weekend anyway.
The OHSAA will be hosting state tournaments in softball, baseball and track. The state baseball finals move from Cooper Stadium to the new Huntington Park in Columbus and begin this morning. State softball returns to Akron’s Firestone Stadium today for the second year with track and field events once again at Jesse Owens Stadium on the Ohio State University campus beginning Friday.
Here is a link for a pdf file with all the information you will need if you are covering any of these events.
A word of warning to those covering state track Friday and Saturday. The OHSAA will not be providing media meals this year in an effort to trim costs so be prepared to use the concession stand outside the media workroom or bring something with you to get through the marathon of state track.
Photographers needing some assistance with track results when captioning can find results online here.
You can’t have spring state tournaments going on without the Memorial Golf Tournament which kicked off Wednesday. All these events are usually a sure sign of either rain or unbelievable humidity. While the skies opened up yesterday during the Skins Tournament at the Memorial it looks as though the rest of the weekend will be rain free with temperatures near 80 degrees.
