Former ONPA member Michael King is a candidate for NPPA’s Board of Directors. That news is not surprising at all to me. King joined ONPA and NPPA as a high school student and was always one to be involved. I’m all for helping him climb the ladder. His plea for your support follows.
Hello, ONPA folks! Long time no see. You are missed!
I wanted to get back in touch and let you know that I’m at a point where I want to start giving back. Since moving to Wisconsin, I’ve progressively become more involved in volunteering with photojournalism organizations. I spent some time as vice president of our state organization, WNPA, and now serve as our contest coordinator. I’ve recently signed on as Student Chapter Chair for the NPPA.
I’m taking things a step further now and running for a seat on the NPPA Board of Directors. Regardless of who you would vote for, please participate in this election that will shape the NPPA’s governance for the next several years.
If you read my platform statement at (http://www.michaelpking.com/nppa.html), I think you’ll see that I’m passionate about helping out, and very concerned about the NPPA’s future. I’m concerned about our membership decline. I’m concerned that the NPPA may not be offering enough of the right things to it’s remaining membership. And I’m concerned that the NPPA may not be properly passing on the torch to the next wave of visual journalists who will enter our profession. All of these concerns can and must be addressed by bringing together the experienced people and the new people in our profession so they can learn from each other.
If your hopes for the NPPA coincide with mine, I would be thrilled to have your vote. All voting will be done at nppa.org during the month of November. Thank you for taking the time to participate! If you have any questions and concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me.
Best regards,
Michael P. King
