1st Place, Photographer of the Year - Small Market - Wesley Blackburn / FreelanceChad Warner harvests one of his soybean fields in Arcanum, Ohio, on September 29, 2025. China, the United States’ biggest consumer, has not placed any soybean orders this year due to ongoing tariffs and new trade deals with other countries, and farmers in Darke County, Ohio’s top soybean-producing county, are preparing for a difficult harvest. With China absent and prices falling, the lack of demand pushes overall soybean prices down and impacts all sellers, especially those who do not have storage and must sell immediately. The industry is now working to expand global demand and find new buyers, with new trade deals in places like Europe, Japan, Vietnam, and Taiwan.

Jim Watt bought the factory in November 2024. Since then, the business has grown. Tariffs have made imported parts more expensive, so more U.S. customers are choosing American made products. The factory uses only domestic steel, which has drawn the attention of major American companies. "They have come to us for a new parts project; they want us to make the tooling and produce the parts, before they would have gone straight to Taiwan", said Jim Watt.
