During the late winter to early spring, when the ground temperatures are roughly 45 degrees Fahrenheit, and we get a heavy warm rain, mole salamanders along with frogs, exit their winter habitats to migrate to vernal pools for mating. They will walk 800 to 1,000 feet to do so. The Dawes Arboretum is hosting night time events to witness this process at their Cypress Swamp.
