First Place, Spot News - Kareem Elgazzar / The Cincinnati Enquirer, “Standoff”Cincinnati police respond to an "emotionally disturbed" man with a knife on Freeman Avenue, June 27, 2020, in the West End neighborhood of Cincinnati. Police were first alerted of the man at about 5 p.m. and he was later subdued by projectile stun gun, apprehended and taken to University of Cincinnati Medical Center. The man was pacing across Freeman Avenue for several hours.
Second Place, Spot News - Amy E. Voigt / The Blade, “Grief”The Toledo Fire and Rescue Department stand by as a horse is comforted after being injured at the intersection of Oakwood and North Detroit, June 2, 2020. A spokesman for the Toledo Fire and Rescue Department, said it appears a loud sound spooked two horses, that were pulling a carriage hearse, into traffic. One horse was struck by a truck. The owner of the horse comforted him for hours in the street. A large animal vet was called in to euthanize the horse.
Third Place, Spot News - Jeremy Wadsworth / The Blade, “Officer Killed”Jayme Dia comforts her son Younes, 8, while visiting a memorial for her husband Toledo Police Officer Anthony Dia, who was killed in the line of duty earlier that morning. The memorial was set up in the Home Depot parking lot on Alexis Road where Officer Dia was killed, Saturday, July 4, 2020, in Toledo.
Award of Excellence, Spot News - Bill Lackey / Springfield News-Sun, “Rocking Chair Rescue”Members of the Springfield Fire Division got a rocking chair, off a nearby porch, for a woman to sit in as she waits for a stretcher following a two car accident. The woman and her husband had just been rescued from their overturned SUV after a crash at the intersection of Woodside Avenue and Bellevue Avenue. They were transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
