The basketball game is the first school function since the fatal shootings in the Chardon High School's cafeteria three days prior. For many Chardon students, this is the first time seeing fellow students. The playoff game against rival Madison had a different tone from the opening of host Euclid High School's doors for the game. Their were booths set up by the ticket counter to support and donate to Chardon along with counselors present in a side room. The Madison basketball team wore black T-Shirts durig warm ups with Chardon printed on the front in solidarity with the Chardon players. The players met at half court and locked arms for the national anthem, sobbing could be heard from the student body cheering section. The game started and a sense of normalcy took over as Chardon Went on To win the game.

Now, Mangold hopes that her size, 5 foot 8 inches tall and 340 pounds, but, more importantly, her strength and skill can help her achieve a lifelong dream of competing in the Olympics. Mangold the 22-year-old was one of 15 women invited to compete for two open spots on the U.S. team in the Olympic Team Trials for weightlifting. Countless world-class swimmers and divers have competed in C.T. Branin Natatorium, which has hosted the boys state high school championships since 1976 and the girls state high school championships since 1980.
