Second Place, Spot News (under 100,000) - Bill Lackey / Springfield News-SunUrbana firefighters, attempting to rescue the driver of an overturned car that struck a utility pole, look up at the arcing wires that are exploding above them, Oct. 28 2009 along Ohio 68 in Champaign County. Part of the pole broke when the car struck it causing the charged wires to arc and catch fire.
Third Place, Spot News (under 100,000) - Bill Lackey / Springfield News-SunA woman looks up at members of the Springfield Fire Division as she waits to be rescued from her overturned car, May 28 2009 on McCreight Ave. The woman apparently lost control of her car striking a street sign and tree which flipped the car on its side. She was transported to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Award of Excellence, Spot News (under 100,000) - Marshall Gorby / Springfield News-SunThe driver and a child passenger console each other after the vehicle they were riding in flipped into a ditch on the entrance ramp to Ohio Route 4 from US 40, May 13, 2009. Both people escaped unharmed. Springfield police and Ohio State patrol personnel responded to the scene.
