Spot News - 1st place - The driver of a car traveling north on South Charleston Pike was transported by CareFlight after he crashed into a dump truck traveling south. The crash occurred in a construction area, where the road was closed down to one lane and flaggers were in place to control traffic. According to members of the construction crew, the truck was given the right-of-way and the car failed to stop. The driver of the dump truck was not injured. (Bill Lackey / Springfield News-Sun)

General News - 1st place - Tony Rieker extinguishes extinguishes a small grass fire after helping light thousands of American flags during the annual flag retirement ceremony at American Legion Post 286 in New Carlisle. The American Legiion receives thousands of faded and worn out flags from all over the country to officially retire. This year they retired between 8,000 - 10,000 flags. Portrait - 1st place - Hayden Freeland, a junior at Indian Valley High School in Gnadenhutten, is an avid gamer who maintains three separate gaming stations in a dedicated room at his home in Rush Township, where he lives with his parents, Steve and Jennifer. The home is situated in a rural area previously devoid of stable internet connectivity, until Spectrum began offering broadband not long ago.
