The 73rd edition of the ONPA convention and seminar is now in the history books. While previous conferences during the golden ages were larger, the 73rd accomplished what those other larger gatherings always did. The event always provides a needed boost when you’re worn down from the daily grind and can use a little more fuel in the tank when you are continually being asked to do more with less.

This year Terry Clark was charged with the job of refilling the tanks. Clark’s presentation 50 Years / 50 Photographs provided just the right octane. His assignments during his midwest-based career weren’t much different than those of his audience.

He was taught to work harder than every other person in the business and it was a lesson plan that he carried out well during his 50-year career, which began with a 4 by 5. These days he carries a Sony mirrorless. Needless to say there’s a little less grain in his pictures these days.

Clark picked a few models from those in attendance to present a small-light portrait workshop after the lunch break for a little hands-on learning.

In the middle of all the activities Buckeye Visualist podcast moderator Lori King shared her microphones during the course of the day which is being presented online in the three parts. Go to the podcast page for all three episodes.

Terry Clark, Jeremy Wadsworth and ONPA president Andrew Dolph are featured  in part one. Wadsworth is large market and clip POY and Dolph, the small market POY.

New ONPA officers Kristin Bauer and Lisa Scalfaro are the guests in part two.

In part three, Amanda Arrick, senior manager for the Sony imaging pro support team highlights her company’s commitment to pro photographers. Earlier in the day Arrick presented Jeremy Wadsworth with Sony’s new a9 Mark III camera with a 24-70mm f2.8 zoom lens. Wadsworth won both the large market and clip contest Photographer of the Year titles this year.

Think Tank and World of Photography were very generous with their contributions for the annual raffle.

On the business side of the day Kim Barth shared that she is in the process of  transitioning the finances to new treasurer Kristin Bauer. Part of the financial plan is to start receiving a fixed amount from the George Smallsreed estate rather than just interest payments for a more stable cash flow.

Plans are underway to celebrate ONPA’s 75th anniversary in two years. There will be a concerted effort to reach out to life members much the same way as was done for the 50th celebration held at Atwood Lodge in 2001.

The ONPA Board is not overlooking the 74th edition and will make sure your tanks get topped off next spring as well.
