Portrait - 2nd place - Jotrell Henry, 38, of Canal Winchester sits in the room where her 11-year-old daughter, Shakyla, used to live before passing away on Feb 1, 2016 in Canal Winchester. Charles Lipscomb went to prison for seven years after shaking his 2-year-old daughter so severely it left her in a wheelchair and with major injuries. The injuries were so severe that, after Lipscomb served his seven-year-prison sentence and was released, Shakyla died nine years later. Because of a decision by a Coroner, the child's death was ruled natural -- despite comments from hospital workers who insisted it was a "homicide" -- and no autopsy was done. After a panel reviewed the child's death, the case was reopened and the Coroner's Office ruled the case a homicide and a supplemental death certificate was issued. But Lipscomb should be facing homicide charges and a potential sentence of life in prison. The Coroner's office didn't tell police or prosecutors, who could take the case to the grand jury, that the child died. (Kyle Robertson / The Columbus Dispatch)
