General News - 1st place - The Columbus firefighter Stephen Cox reveals the grave of Columbus firefighter Mark B. Newman during a ceremony at Greenlawn Cemetery in Columbus. On August 4, 1870, Newman was killed by a collapsing wall while assisting in fire suppression activities at the Columbus Woolen Factory. She graduated from Canal Winchester in 2017 and has now organized a petition that has been signed by 3,000 people to change the school's nickname which is Indians. She said the schools nickname and the use of Native American images is demeaning and stereotypical to Native American and should be changed to better represent the school and community.
